When I was told there was a new adult book with great rep, I didn’t waste any time starting it. The Kiss Quotient was a great read. I’m really surprised this is a debut novel, because it was written so well!
Stella Lane is a great protagonist. She’s smart, successful, but she’s pressured by her mother to excel in another department — relationships. Stella then tries out a male escort service, and this is where she meets Michael. He’s very attractive and is definitely popular among women, but he’s only doing the job so he can support his mother and the rest of his family financially. He’s a selfless, passionate, and intuitive man, and he and Stella are 100% the softest couple I’ve encountered this year.
I guess the main reason I loved this book so much was how much importance was given to consent. Before Michael tries or does anything with Stella, he always always makes sure her she’s comfortable and ready. I’ve read so many explicit stories before, and very rarely is the importance of consent reiterated as much as it has been in this novel.
If you’re looking for a fun, sweet read, The Kiss Quotient is the one for you. The storyline is refreshing, and really well-written. I can’t wait to read what Helen Hoang has in store for me next!
