Okay. Holy shit. That was amazing!!!!!! It’s literally 3am and I’m sitting here just gawking at my screen.
I love the way Roshani writes. From The Star-touched Queen to Aru Shah, she’s basically got me wrapped around her finger. Anything she writes, I’ll read, and this one was no exception.
The Gilded Wolves centers around a man named Severin, who is the exiled heir of the House of Vanth. To earn back his birthright and secure his position as the rightful heir, he must find the ancient artifact belonging to the Order of Babel — the same people who took away what was his in the past. He’s joined by Laila, Enrique, Tristan, Zofia, and last, but definitely not the least: Hypnos. Together with his team of misfits, Severin must make his way through Paris’ hidden roads and unravel the mysteries before him.
I really loved this book! I’ve pre-ordered the Barnes & Noble edition, and I can’t wait to receive it in hard copy in January. I was also really pleasantly surprised by the amount of representation in the book, particularly Enrique. I’ve never seen a Filipino character properly represented in a book before (usually it’s just the author throwing around “oh yeah [character] is half-Filipino, she misses LUMPIA” but this one really really almost brought tears to my eyes with the mentions of the Illustrados, Cavite, and even Tagalog terms. I really was a wreck over this and I was sending so many !!!!!!s to my friends because I just felt SO good seeing my country represented.
Apart from that, the writing is just beautiful. The book is action-packed, and it has everything you would want: found family, magic, romance, betrayal, mystery, adventure, and intricate world-building. It’s a brand new book that brings readers to a completely different world and universe. I can guarantee will be a fantasy fave.
