CAN’T WAIT WEDNESDAY: The Risk

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to bring light to the books we are excited to read. Usually, they’re upcoming releases. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, created by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. It’s my first time participating here, so let’s get right to it!

If you follow me on Twitter, or if you can see what the post header says, you already know that my chosen book for this week is. I’m a huge Elle Kennedy fan, and I love her work with Off Campus. Briar U is its spin-off and the second novel is….

Title: The Risk

Author: Elle Kennedy

Genre: New Adult, Romance

Release Date: February 18, 2019

Summary:

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think.
But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy.
As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team. And that’s who Jake Connelly is.
Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good.
But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.
I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.
For every fake date…he wants a real one.
Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line.
But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.
That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

While I wasn’t really a fan of Fitzy and Summer’s relationship in The Chase, I really did love Brenna and Connelly’s dynamic. For me (and many other people), they totally stole the show. In the first book, readers were given a glimpse of a what-could-be with Brenna and Jake’s hilarious interactions—filled with a lot of sexual tension, no doubt about that—and really just how their rivals to lovers dynamic would work out. Since Elle didn’t exactly reveal who Brenna’s love interest would be until a few months before release date, my friends and I went crazy. We were pretty sure it was going to end up being Jake Connelly—and we were right! Rivals to Lovers takes the top spot (beside enemies to lovers) in my never-ending list of favorite tropes, and I love nothing more than seeing a potential ship spite each other, but deep down actually pining. I joined a bunch of my friends on Twitter in changing our usernames to something Brennelly related, so for the whole month of February, my username will be @brennelIy! I can’t wait to see what Elle does with this couple, and I’ll be finding out pretty soon!

Are there any particular books you’re looking forward to reading this year? This month? This week? And if you’re a fan of Elle’s work, leave a comment telling me what your favorite book of hers is. Let’s chat!

  1. I love Elle Kennedy’s books. Just added this one to my TBR.

  2. Your reviews always make me wanna get into reading NA books…your power!

  3. Ah, the fact that I love hockey just kind of makes me want to read it based on that alone, and I’m a sucker for rivals/enemies to lovers

    1. Yesss! Make sure to read the Off Campus series first! I love sports novels too. Mariana Zapata is one of my favorite authors alongside Elle Kennedy, especially for her work with From Lukov with Love. But I’m biased cause I also skate 🙂

  4. This seems so interesting a little bit of enemies to more. I am trying to broaden my book genes so I might try it!

    1. Yes!!!! If you end up liking enemies to lovers, try out the Hating Game by Sally Thorne as well!

  5. I loved the Off Campus series ! There are so many I look forward to reading but the top contender is The Bride Test
